Initially, you will be overwhelmed by the routine of delivering a basic anesthetic and it will seem like there is so much to do and remember. Understanding the why is crucial to being able to apply what you learn to the new and often unpredict-able situations that you are sure to encounter in the future.
Take every opportunity to understand the rationale behind the decisions and techniques you use in the OR. You will never againīe able to get the opinion of a faculty member on each aspect of each and every case that you do. Keep in mind you only have three years to see and do as much as you possibly can with the advantage of having the continu-ous backup of another anesthesiologist. You are learning the practice of anes-thesia so that you can safely deliver anesthetics and take the best possible care of your patients. Think about how hard youve worked to get to this point and now is the time when it mat-ters most so pour your heart into it! You no longer are learn-ing tidbits of information in preparation for an exam or in or-der to get a good grade. The prac-tices you establish and knowledge you gain will be far more relevant to your future careers then anything else youve learned up until this point.
As you transition from all prior stages of medical training to this, your anesthesia residency, keep in mind that this final stage is by far, the most crucial. Welcome to the UCSD Department of Anesthesiology!! We, the current members of the department, are very excited to have you join us. This is your introduction to the UCSD De-partment of Anesthesiology Residency Program. ISHARE UCSD EDU HOW TO
We cover grammar fundamentals, how to make your writing clearer and more accessible, improving accuracy, storytelling techniques, interviewing skills, how to bring diversity, inclusion and cultural humility to science stories, and career insights.
I also teach the Science Writing I course at UC San Diego Extension. I've done research in academic labs, managed marketing communications for a global, publicly traded medical device company, and served as public information officer for academic research institutions. I especially enjoy translating complex research findings into engaging stories for the public, and leveraging digital/social strategies and traditional media outreach to enhance and amplify them. I develop communications strategies and write press releases and content for websites, blogs, email campaigns, newsletters, brochures, and more. I'm a freelance science communicator, primarily for life science companies and organizations.
